PSU Track and Field and Cross Country Were the Best Groups I Ever Joined That Had No Hazing*

* Unless you count the 15 Mile Mountain Runs that were always 18 Miles Long! Thanks, Ziggy and Baden!

I was ever grateful that there never was anything like "Hazing" going on in the late 70's at PSU among the Track and Cross Country set.  Instead, it was an atmosphere that fostered excellence on both the track and the classroom.  As the skinniest (I know, none of you can believe that one now!) and least likely to survive anything untoward, I was able to improve at both starting right away Freshman year.

But that doesn't mean I don't like watching movies or reading about the "fun and frolic" among the hazing aficionados out there.  Animal House is the second best movie ever made (behind only Caddyshack, of course) and only grazes the surface of what really went on at The Real Animal HouseChris Miller and his band of brothers at Dartmouth in the early 60's would be hard to beat in this regard.  The culture of vomiting is the predominant theme of the time. That's why this recent example of alleged hazing at present day Dartmouth is so disturbing.  I'm hoping that in the future, all hazing is confined to the area of fiction, where it belongs.  (But Hazing Police, please don't take away Animal House!)
