It's like the Chinese thought that if a 4 cornered track was good enough for Rec Hall, then it's good enough for China!
But then again, there are no rails to hit you in the elbow! Has anyone been in the refurbished Intramural Building? What is the jogging track like?
I once ran a 15:00 3-mile on the Rec Hall track, alone. I'm pretty sure that would translate into my PR for 5000M on a "real" track. But that conversion algorithm has yet to be created. (It felt like a 14:40 or so 5K except on my elbows, which took a beating.)
ReplyDeleteI can't remember which venue - Rec Hall or the Ice Palace - produced the worst oxygen debt headaches. Of course the number of years I did workouts that produced oxygen debt probably has caused this faulty memory.
ReplyDeleteI vividly recall workouts in Rec Hall, one intra-squad meet and one spectacular crash and fall which caused Dave Felice's spikes to rake the wall and cause sparks to fly.

I always hard sore throats at both after every work out. And I always kept my windows closed, so Coach could never pin that one on me! And I remember Dave Felice with bloody gashes after one workout. Possibly the same one! And who could forget those wondrous 400 M time trials for the sprinters with 2 runners apiece, one of whom always ended up over the rails. Good times, good times.
