The winners of the tourney this year have familiar faces, but results in two new inscribees on the Coach Harry Groves Cup.
Founder and Keeper of the Beer Clark Haley makes another appearance on the Cup, which I won't begrudge him this time because of all the work he put into it. Clark arranged for a nifty t-shirt for everybody golfing and a hole-in-one package with a Grand Prize of $50,000! Alas, nobody got close on that shot, taken before the tourney actually started, but during the actual tourney someone was within inches of another prize.
Paul Mundy wins his third Cup, cementing his position deep in The Hall of Honor. He will soon be departing for a lengthy Harley-Davidson trip with his daughter and then another lengthier trip to become certified as a true crazy biker. He promises to take his wrist-band along for some scenic pictures. (I'll have to remind him!)
Coach John Gondak brought his smile and plenty of golf talent to his second tourney and comes away with PSU Track Alumni Golfer glory! Let's hope the luck continues as he takes Cas, Ryan and the rest of the middle distance stars to the NCAA Regionals!
And finally, Steve Shisler gets his name on the Cup as well. There are four of us that have golfed in all ten of the tourneys, and he is the last to make the grade. Not that I'm rubbing it in or anything. I'm just saying. Steve was distracted enough by the victory of his son at the District 6 400 M finals on Thursday that he relaxed and let his inner golf talents emerge. No amount of relaxation or distraction will allow any golfing talent out of my bereft self! Way to go Steve.

Gayle Hunter- Heptathlon, 5797 pts., fifth place.
Clarence Smith- Triple Jump, 52' 6", eighth place.
Bridget Franek- 3000 m Steeplechase, 9:48.57, fourth place.
Ryan Foster- 800 m, 1:47.91, eighth place, (previous 1:46.78 PR in semi-finals).
Women's 4 X 400 m Relay- (Aleesha Barber, Shavon Greaves, Gayle Hunter, Fawn Dorr), 3:30.34, fourth place.
Kudos to Head Coach Beth Alford-Sullivan, who was named the Indoor Big Ten's Women's Coach of the Year. And also a special thank-you for Middle Distance Coach John Gondak for bringing PSU back to being 800 U! Let's hope he promotes our one-of-a-kind PSU is 800 U t-shirts! And I can't wait to find out if any of the coaches can golf next year.
