Following my revelation of the 1978 training run Marathon, Michael Gross sent me this result from the 1986 NVTC Half Marathon. Some familiar names are present, including Michael in 6th place. I especially note the weather information! Seventeen degrees at the start, rising to a balmy 34 at the finish. And a 0 degree wind chill! Happy Valley at its finest...

One-Mile Club
From a comment on yesterdays blog post regarding the 60th anniversary of the first sub 4 minute mile.

Time for a shout out to all Penn State (undergrad[u] or grad[g]) Sub4 milers:
Greg Fredericks[g] 1979 US #94
Larry Mangan[u] 1980 US #103
Mike Wyatt 1980[g] US #104
Ryan Foster[u] 2011
Robbie Creese[u] 2012 US#372
Brannon Kidder[u] 2013 US#386
Owen Dawson[g] 2013 US#401
As of 4/15/2014 420 American runners have accomplished this feat."
That let me to dig up the Penn State Track and Field media guide from 2006 which features this list of Penn Staters who have gone under, or been close to, four minutes. Since it is from 2006 the recent sub 4's are excluded from the rankings. The conversion used (presumably by "Coach" Groves) has Doug Walter and Dave McMillan under four minutes.
Let the discussion, corrections, additions, and omissions continue! Staring with the addition of Matt Lincoln, his 3:38.44 from 2009 is tied with Larry Mangan for the Alumni 1500 meter record.

PSU is 800 U: Millrose Edition
On an "off week" the Nittany Lion quartet of Brannon Kidder, Casimir Loxsom, Za'Von Watkins and Ricky West (with Ryan Brennan as the alternate) bettered both the Millrose Games and Armory Facility Records in the 4 x 800 M Relay. Their 7:21.37 exactly ties the Indoor Penn State Record of the quartet of Steve Balkey, Dave McMillan, Chris Mills and Ray Levitre set in 1987.
Zavon Watkins 1:51.1
Brannon Kidder 1:51.6
Ricky West 1:50.1
Casimir Loxsom 1:48.8
