A New Cross Country Season And An Old One Too

The Dolan Duels were held on Friday. These celebrate Coach Dolan of Lock Haven, who coached PSU and recruited Greg Fredericks to Happy Valley.  Photos by Greg himself!

But just a few years ago, the State College High team with quite a few future (and former!) Nittany Lions had their photo taken.  Photo from future Track Alumni (Golfer) Bill Kvashay.  Included are former PSU Captain Jackson Horner, Carl Bechdel, Howard Triebold, and Bill Kvashay himself.  It is my hope we see Bill and a very special guest when he comes to the 2023 Reunion in August!

1972 Cross Country Team

Things were heating up in the nation during this time.  The "plumbers" were breaking into the DNC headquarters in the Watergate Hotel.  The Dow closed above 1,000 for the very first time. The very last troops were withdrawn from Vietnam.  And gasoline prices rose to 55 cents/gallon!

Notable (at least to me!):
  • Captains Matt Chadwick and Jim Allahand
  • Howie Triebold
  • Friends Jim Bray (another Podiatrist) and Steve Miller (York Countian)
  • Charlie Maguire
  • Bob Hillman
  • Carl Bechdel
  • Dixons and Pastors!
  • George Christopher (PSU Marathon record holder)

Gone To Texas

The renamed novel on which the movie screenplay for The Outlaw Josey Wales was based was called Gone to Texas.  Originally, the novel was called The Rebel Outlaw: Josey Wales.  Either way, can you imagine anyone else playing the part other than Clint Eastwood?

Group friend and future Track Alumni Golfer (we will entice you to come, I guarantee!) Howard Triebold sends us another great Wrist Band Photo from the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas.  Thanks for thinking of us, and get those sticks out for some practice!

And here's a little bit of Josey to keep your day lively.  When I was Student Council President in High School (yea, my one and only foray into politics, trust me!) I got to introduce the guy that did all of the close up gun play in his movies at an assembly.  He's also in a lot of Clint's movies, often killed by the same guns he is shown using. I'll try to look up his name when I get the chance.

Wrist Band Glory!

Howard Triebold sends his regrets for this year's golf tourney, but makes up for it with this excellent Wrist Band Photo from Munich's famed Hofbrauhaus!  The composition adds to the excellent choice of locale. The depth of field focus was also a good choice.  It will be added to the slide show with pride.
