Running Is Going To The Dogs And These Chips Are (Almost) Mine!

My menagerie of 5 dogs, 5 cats, 2 fish and 2 mice are all looking at me now for breakfast, as the girls are all on vacation down the shore without me.

All of the cats are refurbished shelter or stray cats that we somehow adopted.  One of the dogs is also a second-hand pooch.  The fish are carnival fish which are thriving in their kitchen tank with all the amenities.  And the mice live in luxury with the finest food in the world, safe from the well-fed cats who would play with them rather than eat them if they had the chance (actually happened once!).

But this high school XC team had the great idea of combining a weekly training run with promoting the local shelter to support more animal adoptions.  Very fine idea!  Thanks to Judy Lynn Weaver for the link!

Meanwhile, Lays has come out with a new flavor chip that harkens back to my entry in the contest when it first started.  Chinese Szechuan Chicken chips are almost exactly like the Kung Pao chips I dreamed up.  The 3 flavors in the Szechuan chips are 1) chicken flavor  2) Szechuan peppercorns and 3) garlic Chinese Wok flavor. My 3 flavors were  1) chicken flavor  2) Szechuan peppercorns and 3) peanuts.  I think mine would be much better, but the current version isn't bad.  Usually this kind of chip is overbearing like the Greek Gyro version, but these are understated and leave the lips slightly numb just like they should!  Here is another review.

An Anniversary And Trip Back In Time

"A date which will live in infamy!"
~Judy Lynn Weaver '87 (mgr.)

My plea for submissions from my horde of faithful readers again bore fruit. (Keep them coming!) Judy Lynn Weaver sent me this great article from the Summer Collegian in 1968.  That's almost one year before the moon landings. (Yes, they really did go to the moon with a computer the equivalent of the original Palm Pilot!)  It's also notable that racial tensions were about the same as they are today on page 1 of the Collegian.  That makes me extremely sad.

Turns out that Coach Groves was hired as the new PSU Track and Cross Country Coach on 7/24/1968 Coach John Lucas stepped down to devote full-time to his professorship duties.  Word of the hire was reported exactly 47 years ago today (with the appropriate conversions from Rec Hall's square track to a banked Mondo-surfaced 200 meter indoor facility.  Or was that from Imperial to Metric?)  Thanks Judy Lynn!

Photographer Wanted!

Judy Lynn Weaver just sent us this gem of a photo! Last year's Official Event Photographer, Judy Lynn has reluctantly given up the post to concentrate on other aspects of our Reunion Weekend. My hope is that she won't challenge Clark Haley for the coveted position of Keeper of the Beer! She has indicated her desire to attend next year's event already and has thrown in a handsome contribution to our overall fund, entitling her to several versions of our wrist bands. She can thus enter our Wrist Bands Around the World Contest for the Golden Golf Ball.

The photo shows Keeper of the Golden Putter, Greg Fredericks handing Horace over to the first ever winner, Bob Gabel for his 16 foot putt on the treacherous 18th green. That's Coach Groves to the left, watching the rest of the inept golfers flailing at the lush greenery.

Anyone wishing to become next year's Official Photographer can contact me via the Interwebby Thingie.
