Chris Foster is on a Roll
Chris Foster placed 2nd in the Los Angeles Triathlon for his third big finish in a row. This moved him up to fifth in the overall standings in the pro circuit. His 30:03 10K was the top time in the running portion of the event.

The Top of the Podium Two Weeks in a Row
Chris Foster won a Triathlon for the second week in a row. This time in Galveston. He had the second best running time and the record bike time. Since I can't swim or bike (nor actually run anymore!), my PSU Track cap is off to him.

More Golf (It's Been a Long Time!) And Chris Foster Teaches Jon Cryer a Thing or Two
Chris Foster won the Malibu Triathlon last weekend. Another Malibu resident, Two and a Half Men's Alan Harper (Jon Cryer) braved the event and came out with less skin than he had before the start. Chris, if I remember correctly also had a bad bike accident last year and must have taught Jon a thing or two. Jon then got a parking ticket at the Hospital!
And Golf's Best Ever Ball Striker is a guy you never heard about. Moe Norman was said to never have hit a hook or a slice (unless asked to do it on purpose!). He could give a golf technique demonstration and hit 200 shots in a row within 10 feet of a bucket at 200 yards. His only problem was his ultimate advantage. He was The Rain Man of Golf. His autism and social backwardness prevented him from attaining all the accolades he other wise would have. His technique is now taught everywhere and is known as Natural Golf. This involves a single plane of swing, negating lateral rotation and therefore hooks and slices.
Here's Moe Norman in action at one of his demonstrations. Really remarkable stuff. There had been plans for a feature film of his life, but I think things are delayed. Notice his poor dentition; Moe was hooked on Coca-Cola and drank a case a day, while living in a Cadillac he won at a tournament in Canada!

Champions! With a Little Physics, Golf and Adam Sandler!
Caitlin Lane was honored at the start of the PSU/Navy Football game on Saturday for her Big Ten Cross-Country victory last year.
Chris Foster won the Nautica Malibu Triathlon over the weekend.
And Happy Gilmore was right! Physics shows us his swing technique could add 10% to his driving distance. And its all somehow legal in the golf world!

PSU Track Alumni Blogs Everywhere!
It seems blogging has emerged from parent's basements everywhere and is no longer the sole home of nerds like me anymore. I would like to think this humble blog had something to do with it, but that would be presumptuous of me. Several PSU Track Alums are blogging their exploits and even some inanities like me! None offer any insights into the world of physics, however. And none have a store with underwear with Coach Groves' image on them. I've got that going for me. Here's a recent compilation of a few of them:
AND!!! New items added to the Group Store, including an exclusive"PSU is 800 U" drinking glass with the iconic image designed by the PSU 1980 Olympic Team member, Greg Fredericks. (Well, retired folks have to have something to do!) Just kidding Greg.
- Bridget Franek's pre-World Championship thoughts at steeplechics.com
- Chris Foster's Triathlon web site, and a scheduled talk about his exploits
- Tyler McCandless's recent 2nd place in the USATF Half Marathon
- Matt Lincoln's blog of his North of the Border exploits
- Casimir Loxsom's thoughts at the World University Games

Finally!
Finally, someone may be getting around to giving us the flying cars we were promised since the early 60's! I can't wait for the inevitable traffic delays caused by idiots trying to "drive" these and messing up both the Interstate System and Air Traffic Control. All it will take is one idiot to mess up the entire country. I hope to be an early idiot adopter of the technology.
But no matter what, these vehicles will be better than the upcoming crop of cars we will be forced to deal with when the Green Agenda is full bore.

And in Triathlon News, Chris Foster won the San Diego Triathlon this past week.

As Professions Go...

you can do a lot worse than a professional triathlete. Chris Foster '05 has parlayed his running abilities and other attributes like swimming and biking into a great career that beats the heck out of anything I've tried! He lives in California now, but competes all over the world. He is currently in the midst of the Pan American Cup series where he has a 2nd place finish and a fourth place finish. Last year, Chris won events in San Diego and my favorite Canadian City, Windsor. I used to travel to Windsor for pizza while a resident in Detroit (not for the thousands of strip clubs there!). Follow Chris's exploits at his website.
As always, I'll make the effort to entice him to the golf outing, but with his schedule, it will be tough!
And here's another way to become a professional runner that any one of us can do! All it takes is an ability to withstand cold and be single and friendless!
