Movies I Have Helped To Be Made

I have given money to only 2 (and quite different!) movie projects in my time here on Earth. And both are nearing completion and distribution to the masses.

The first is Everest on the Track, about Roger Bannister's epic sub-4 minute mile. It is just in time for the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of that day. I joined 301 people in funding the last bit of production on this worthy project.

The other is Plan 9, a remake of the world's worst movie by Ed Wood.  I'm actually an Associate Producer on that one and have my name up on the big screen for the very first time.  Big news coming on that one!  Keep your eyes out for them both at a theatre near you!

Remember, that's 800 U's very own Steve Black running away from zombies at the 1:28 mark and Monument Avenue (scene of Tyler McCandless's recent 2nd place finish) in Richmond at the 2:20 mark.

Harold Abrahams, Olympic Gold (and Sub-4 Timer!)

Harold Abrahams was the timer at Roger Bannister's Sub-4 Mile.  Harold was the runner depicted in the movie "Chariots of Fire" who used the Italian professional coach, Sam Mussibini.  He was victorious in the 1924 London Olympic 100 M.

He subsequently was a commentator for the BBC and a noted Olympic historian, in addition to timing that memorable race.

Happy Birthday, Roger

Happy 80th Birthday Roger Bannister! I actually spoke by phone with Sir Roger many years ago while in Podiatry School. We called him out of the blue to ask him for any of his shoes for our shoe museum. He unfortunately had given away his last pair of spikes the week before!

Mr. Bannister has just started running again recently, (or shuffling as he calls it). He had been unable to do so since a traffic accident in his 40's which fractured his heel. Recently, he discovered some shoes from Kenya made from automobile tyres (as the Brits love to call them) that have allowed him to resume twice weekly runs. You pansies have no excuses!
