The Penn State team will be traveling to the biggest cross country race so far this year at the Pre-National Meet in Terre Haute, Indiana on Saturday. Finally, we will be able to see what the team can do as a whole. Good luck!
I'll be traveling to the Catoctin area of Maryland for the Hood College Invitational at Utica Park, just off Rt. 15 near Thurmont MD (and Camp David!)
In browsing the vast internet, I came across this great video of a race at Utica Park earlier this season which provides an aerial view of the course FILMED BY A DRONE!
I suppose we're going to need a Director of Drones soon.

this is a great first step in the new technology. Once the drone operator perfects his/her skills it will just get better and better. Watching what the Tour de France does with helicopter coverage, only leads me to believe that it will get even better with drone coverage. Seeing the roll of the countryside is also really neat. I envision the pilot bringing the drone down to low level and just a few feet away from the runners, then swooping back up for a full panoramic view. Then multiple drone coverage necessitating a director. But it will be done with a lot less equipment than you now see at major outdoor events. Also need to train the commentators to keep up with the action.
ReplyDeleteThen interloping drones filming events without permission. Then promoters using attack drones to take out the interlopers. Who by the way is going to keep an amateur drone operator out of the Indy 500, super bowl, world series etc.? There could be tens or hundreds of drones all over every outdoor event. Even the PSU Alum Golf tournament. Skillwilli is bending over his putt, about to tap in for a double eagle, when suddenly out of the bushes comes a drone that blows his ball slightly to the left causing him to forfeit the double eagle for an eagle. Coach Groves registers his dismay with a drone laced series of expletives, throwing a javelin at the drone and taking out two nerd brained steeplechasers lurking at the controls of the rogue drone.

You have it exactly right, George! You get this blog much more than most of my compatriots. Central PA is home to a mostly German-derived populace. Humor is rarely recognized and more seldom acknowledged. Soon the sky will be filled with drones spying on other drones which are spying on still others. Like a cave of bats at nightfall. God help us. hee hee hee
