Temple University, alma mater of Coach Groves and Bill Cosby (a smart-a** Freshman when Coach was a Senior) will be dropping Men's Indoor and Outdoor Track after this year.
It will keep happening.
THE GOLF IS OPTIONAL, THE MIRTH IS REQUIRED! The only blog detailing PSU Track and Field, (not always great!) Golf, Physics topics and great videos at the same time! An eclectic mish-mash (mess) of just about everything imaginable. Penn State Track and Field Alumni Golfers have honored PSU Track/XC, Coach Harry Groves and abused golf courses throughout Happy Valley since 2002. Help spread the word!
Along with baseball, softball, men's and women's crew, and men's gymnastics.
ReplyDeleteYet the football team can continue to rack up 2-10 seasons with zero regard for the bottom financial line.
ReplyDeleteHarry was wrong about Title IX, and his comment reflects a biased view point which was not supportive of women's athletics.
ReplyDeleteYou can also be idealistic about athletics - but money $$$$ rules the day in collegiate athletics.
Temple football was 2-10 and they're now cutting Men's Indoor/Outdoor track because that horrific Owl football program - decades of subpar results - is leaking money like a sieve.
Also, Robert Morris dropped men's track and field and cross country. Temple said that they wanted to put more support into their "Olympic" sports. Wonder how that "Olympic Football" is working out for them?
ReplyDeleteIn PA, here's the list of schools that dropped Men's Track and XC: Cabrini College, Clarion University, Millersville University, Temple, and Robert Morris. Very sad state of affairs.
