The 1952 Helsinki Olympic 3000 meter Steeplechase Finals shows PSU's Horace Ashenfelter with plenty left in his 8:45.8 gold-medal performance, the unofficial WR at the time. Mr. Ashenfelter currently lives in New Jersey and gets a much deserved hat tip from all PSU Track Alumni golfers. He is also an avid golfer.
