*Authoritative is meant as a bit of a joke, as was Definitive in a previous post. Everyone (most) know that I'm an authority on things other than PSU Track Records and Excel. Unfortunately, those with more knowledge about these things are hard to find and motivate to participate. We get corrections and admonitions all the time about things we have gotten wrong. We welcome them.** That's kind of the whole point of trying to generate interest in joining our group to honor Coach Groves along with the past and future of PSU Track/XC. Remember the mirth, and you can skip the golf.
** Small, caffeinated and poo-flinging monkeys are currently hard at work correcting the PSU Mens Alumni Road Race Records. Another set of horrible monkeys is being recruited right now to correct these Indoor marks and the upcoming Outdoor marks.***
***Scorn and admonitions can be directed at me for any errors in accuracy, formatting and just general disdain at the effort. I'm getting used to it.

Certainly Owen Dawson's recent sub-4 mark beats greg's 4:03. Damn those monkeys.
ReplyDeleteI know Mike Wyatt broke 4 in 1980 (I believe), but I don't recall the specific time in relation to Owen Dawson's.
ReplyDeleteI also know that Pat Rexroat (spg?) broke 1:50 in the 800.
Paul Stemmer has several fast 5K and 10Ks.
There is also a few on the tip of my tongue who ran the 400 in '75 through '80 that bested 47. No...not...Everybody got one of doze Ny-key bags!
And finally, I'm pretty sure the person who wishes to no longer be associated with the PSU T&F/X-C Alumni ran faster, but I do have an 8:44 3000 Steeplechase to my credit in a meet in Louisiana in 1981.
Somewhere in my water-damaged storage I hope to have still have my memorbilia that survived the great fire on '91.
I'm putting Matt on the job of updating this and the Road records. He's better than my caffeinated, poo-flinging monkeys and slighter better groomed too! @Matt, use all the sources, even those from Mordor.
ReplyDeleteLarry Mangan 4:02.4 1984 Louisville. Also check Matt Lincoln's times. He may have run faster too!
ReplyDeleteBob Snyder 8:34.2 2-mile.
ReplyDeleteJust want to be clear you're talking about indoor times. Dawson and Wyatt ran their sub4s outdoors and I'm pretty sure Kelly's 8:44 steeple wasn't accomplished indoors!
ReplyDeleteI am authoritative in declaring these are supposed to be Indoor Times! The Outdoor posting fiasco will come later. Scorn and ridicule will rule the lands.
ReplyDeleteSnyders 2 mile was as an undergrad in Delaware.
ReplyDeleteOwen Dawson ran 4:00.4 at the Armory earlier this year.
