Not track but still collegiate athletics related.
Via ESPN.com "NEW YORK -- Alabama coach Nick Saban and Arkansas coach Bret Bielema voiced their concerns about the effects of up-tempo, no-huddle offenses on player safety to the NCAA committee that passed a proposal to slow down those attacks.
Neither Saban nor Bielema were on the committee and they did not vote on the proposal passed Wednesday to allow defenses time to substitute between plays by prohibiting offenses from snapping the ball until 29 seconds are left on the 40-second play clock."
Hmm so you are a college football coach and your team has trouble stopping a fast paced offense. Come up with a game plan to slow it down? Get in shape in the off season so you can keep up? No, just outlaw it.
How about this for cross country; no one can run the first mile faster than 5 minutes. Actually, as a mid-distance runner in college, I might have liked that.

I would have had to speed up to hit the 5:00 time!
ReplyDeleteMaybe the home team gets to skip the steeplechase barriers. Or shot puts 2 pounds lighter for the home team. The rules are endless!
